The Engineering Team
The bricks and walls that make our house safe

Team Leader: Santiago Cadavid, Senior (Atlanta International School)

Safety Captain: Joost ten Lohuis, Senior (Atlanta International School)

Our engineering team is basically divided up into mechanical and electrical, though generally both teams overlap during the build process. We are the core of what is seen in action during the FIRST competition, the robot itself. We are responsible for the design, CAD drawings (with Rohan Dalvi as the leader and Andy Gutierrez providing his expertise), building, wiring, and, generally, testing of the robot. In our off-season, we also work to fulfill our Robots Save Lives!! mission and use the time to explore previous landmine detection designs and build prototypes of them.

The Mechanical Engineering team has two focal points; we integrate engineering expertise and practices from a multi-cultural perspective and we exercise this practices in a team environment where we find team effort a crucial element of our prestigious performance. Here at IHOT we, the Mechanical team follow our mentor's guidelines and suggestions, since the very first day of the six week period we dedicate our time to strenuous times of planning and countless hours of modifications. As a team we work face to face with our mentors who provide a structural base for our activities while we provide the continuation of such structure. It is moreover, our most important task and elements to work with quality, respect, team effort and responsibility in order to accomplish what we as a team strive for.

The electrical team, also known as one of the smallest teams, we are responsible for the wiring of the robot. Because most of our team members do not work until later on in the design and build period, most of our team members integrate into the other team areas. During the 2005 season, we have also been working together with the programming team to decipher the vision camera.
