Our Robots
Stephen ColbotThis year's robot is named after comedian Stephen Colbert, who helped to host the kickoff this year. We haven't actually finished it yet, so no images yet! (Though the design is hardly classified: we plan to use an arm with wheels to force down the ramp, and scoop in balls, then send them upwards with an elevator and fire them out using 1-2 spinning wheels, as in a tennis shooter.) |

NameOur 2011 robot, Name, used a fixed support mounted on an elevator to raise innertubes to the rack. It was mounted on a wheelbase that used 4 CIM motors and 4 8" mecanum wheels, for maneuverability. |

OliviaOur 2010 robot, Olivia, was designed to shoot soccer balls into a group of goals. It had a roller to scoop up balls, and a pneumatically-powered kicker modeled on a human foot to score them. Its wheels were massive- large enough to drive over the bump- but it was still low enough to drive through the tunnels. In order to provide more maneuverability, we also mounted a swivel wheel on a piston, that could raise the rear half of the robot when turning. |
